The Abraham Accords:

Challenges and Opportunities

with Dr. Michael Sharnoff, National Defense University

The decision by the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan to normalize relations with Israel was a repudiation of long-standing Arab League policy. These agreements highlight the changing regional priorities and dynamics of the Middle East and offer new opportunities for regional security and cooperation. This talk will explore how the countries arrived at the Abraham Accords, assess the regional impact since 2020, and consider options to deepen trust and cooperation between Israel and its neighbors. Dr. Michael Sharnoff is Associate Professor at the National Defense University’s Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies. His first book, Nasser’s Peace, is about Egyptian attitudes toward peace with Israel immediately after the 1967 War.

A Partnership Between Little Falls Village, the Council of Former Federal Executives and Associates (COFE), and Little Falls Library of Montgomery County Public Libraries.
