At the core of the Village concept is that we are community, that we care about one another, and that those who can, help those who need help. Whichever level of membership you choose, you can enjoy the many benefits of our programs now and know that you are helping to support services you may need in the future.
BMAV offers two levels of membership:
Social members have access to a full calendar of social events including:
coffees, lunches or happy hours at local restaurants or members’ homes, outings to museums and theaters, book talks, classes, and guest speakers. We also have several special interest groups to choose from, including Aging Well, Arts, Armchair Travelers, Birding, Book Club, Bridge, Film Fans, Gardening, Hardy Hikers, Spanish conversation, and Knitting and Needlework, with more to be formed.
Membership includes a weekly email with event information and a newsletter full of interviews and articles of interest emailed every two months, as well as access to an online membership directory.
Social members are welcome from any neighborhood in Bethesda not served by another village.
Full Service members receive the benefits above as well as access to our volunteer service providers.
BMAV has neighbor volunteers offering (as available):
- transportation (rides to BMAV events and personal appointments and errands),
- friendly phone calls or visits,
- light home maintenance tasks (like getting on ladders to change lightbulbs or lifting items), limited technical assistance in the home for computers and other devices (such as set up or basic troubleshooting),
- absent owner services outside the home such as watering plants and picking up packages (for up to three weeks), and
- occasional non-medical respite care for primary caregivers
Full Service memberships are available to residents within our boundaries.
BMAV’s dues are:
$300 a year for an individual Social membership entitling you to participate in all BMAV social events, discussion groups and seminars.
$600 a year for a household (regardless of size) for the same benefits.
$450 a year for an individual member seeking the complete package of programs and services.
$750 a year for a household (regardless of size) who want the same access to all programs and services.
(Social members who experience a change of status during the year and find they need Full Service benefits can upgrade their membership on a pro-rated basis. Contact us for details.)
BMAV’s policy is that no one who wishes to be a member should be excluded for financial reasons. The village’s mission is to help neighbors who want to stay in our neighborhood by offering services and social activities that make that possible for all of us, even as we age and our circumstances change.
If you are concerned that you don’t have room in your budget for membership, BMAV will work with you to make it happen. On an individual basis, we can offer a reduced fee membership plan, or a payment plan, whenever appropriate.
