Falls are not a normal part of aging and there are so many things you can do to manage your fall risk! This 60 minute discussion will be lead by two expert physical therapists, Tiffany Shubert, PhD, PT and Vickie Mendes PT. Tiffany will introduce a free resource for you to learn about your own fall risk and what you can do about it. We will learn how to reduce the fear of falling by learning to view falls as controllable, setting goals for increasing activity levels and making small changes to reduce fall risks at home. Vickie will present a series of exercises you can do in your home to improve your strength and balance.

Vickie Mendes is a Certified Otago Physical Therapist. She currently teaches virtual and in-person Otago exercise fall prevention classes to residents of Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, NC. Tiffany Shubert, PhD PT is a physical therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. She is a leading expert in fall risk management strategies and was the lead disseminator of the Otago Exercise Program, an evidence-based fall prevention program proven to reduce falls by 35% in high risk older adults. Tiffany has been funded by the Centers for Disease Control and the National Council on Aging to research best strategies to empower older adults to manage their fall risk.

For BMAV members and volunteers.
