Join Dupont Circle Village for a conversation with Dr. Fiona Hill, celebrated foreign policy expert and former director at the National Security Council. Dr. Hill startled the nation during her testimony aa a key witness in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump about Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. She has also served President George W. Bush and President Obama at the National Intelligence Council. She grew up as a coal-miner’s daughter in northern England surrounded by closing mines and businesses and decay. She got out and studied in Moscow and at Harvard, became an American citizen, and served three Presidents. By the time she offered her testimony in the impeachment inquiry of President Trump, Hill knew that the desperation of forgotten people was driving American politics over the brink – and that we were running out of time to save ourselves from Russia’s fate. In this powerful, deeply personal account, she shares what she has learned, and shows why expanding opportunity is the only long-term hope for our democracy. Fiona Hill is currently a Senior Fellow at the Center on the United States and Europe in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution. She is co-author of Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin and The Siberian Curse: How Communist Planners Left Russia Out in the Cold.
