About this event
Join us for the third and final BMAV mural tour of the Federal buildings. Discover the art and architecture that made the Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior Building a "symbol of a new day" during the Great Depression. Designed by local architect Waddy Butler Wood (1869–1944), the Interior headquarters structure features more Public Works Administration (PWA) artwork than any other Federal building and has the second most PWA artists represented. Throughout the tour, you will view a selection of the more than 40 painted murals by New Deal-era artists, plus several of the 1941–1942 photomurals by Ansel Adams. With the American bison included on the official seal of the U.S. Department of the Interior, you will see several bison in the building's artwork and architectural details.
The tour will last approximately 75 minutes. There are limited places for seating during the tour. The other two tours of the Cohen and Social Security buildings were wonderful.
Space is limited to 14. RSVP by Friday, July 10 here or to Stephanie Sutton. Transportation to the Department of Interior tour will be via van from Seabury Connector. We will depart from the Connie Morella Library parking lot at 1pm, arriving back in Bethesda around 4:30 pm. Free.
