About this event
Learn all about Peggy Shippen, at a talk by Stephen Case, co-author of, Treacherous Beauty: Peggy Shippen, the Woman behind Benedict Arnold's Plot to Betray America. Case, a retired lawyer and member of Bethesda Metro Area Village, has for over 35 years enjoyed a hobby of learning everything he can find about Peggy Shippen. Shippen was a 19 year old society girl from Philadelphia who concocted a scheme that could have let the British capture George Washington and win the American Revolution. Obviously, the scheme failed, but it changed her life forever, and that of her husband, Benedict Arnold. Also, it brought premature death to her former boyfriend, John Andre, a British officer. Join us to learn about this piece of little known history during the revolution 250 years ago.
Co-sponsored by Connie Morella Library and Bethesda Metro Area Village.
