About this event

Join BMAV and CCAH for this presentation by the Montgomery County Police Department on how scams are perpetrated. Participants will get in-depth guidance to help spot and stop fraud before it is too late.

Topics include:
• The most common scams and how thieves manipulate you by triggering your emotions.
• How to spot and avoid phishing emails.
• 4 key tactics to safeguard your savings.
• What to do in case you become a victim

Bill Peyser is a retired CPA and finance professional. He is a member of the Keeping Seniors Safe program with the MCPD. Bill’s presentation will focus on the two primary manipulation techniques scammers use to trick us into sending money or revealing personal information. He will then discuss some of the most prevalent scams, phishing campaigns, and fraudulent text messages and show you how to identify the red flags.

Seniors can proactively take steps to protect themselves, and Bill will review them in detail. The presentation also includes a short case study followed by testimony from a scam victim and a question-and-answer period.
