Enjoy a walk around the historic Edgemoor neighborhood of Bethesda with Fred Berner, author of “Old Edgemooor – The Heart of Bethesda.” This tour will begin outside of Edgemoor but nearby, at the corner of Moorland Lane and York Lane (on the other side of Wilson Lane) and end in Edgemoor in the 7600 block of Glenbrook Road. We’ll first tour “Moreland,” for which Moorland Lane was named by Walter Tuckerman, the founder of Edgemoor. This Colonial Revival home, built in 1894, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Next, we’ll visit “Dulce,” a turreted Queen Anne residence built in the first years of the 20th century on one of the highest spots in Bethesda. Then we’ll walk over to Edgemoor to tour Walter Tuckerman’s first two “Show Homes”: The Beaux-Arts “Brooke House,” built on Hampden Lane in 1913, which features superlative landscaping, and “Dunrobin,” an English Tudor residence built on Glenbrook Road in 1915.
