About this event
A Presentation of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Join us on a journey to explore and appreciate the aesthetics of the Indigenous (Native American) cultures of the Southwest through ceramics, textiles , Kachina figures, paintings and more that enrich the permanent collection at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Our participants will gain an understanding of the artifacts and their symbolism in shapes, designs and colors that play an important role in the sacred and material functionality of the objects/art works.
The session will conclude with an art activity involving drawing and coloring a jar/pot inspired by “Olla” pottery of the Zuni peoples. The materials required are paper, pencil, coloring pencils (or any coloring medium available to the participant). Optional-extra paper and a pair of scissors can be handy to learn the technique of creating a symmetrical vessel.
