About this event

As we age, we can count on needing reading glasses and possibly cataract surgery. However, we may also develop eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, or diabetic retinopathy. These eye conditions are abnormal and can cause mild to severe vision loss.

What happens if vision declines? This can be a very frustrating and frightening ordeal. The good news is there are many resources, services, and support options available to ease this transition and help find new ways to do tasks. The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) can help you find what you need to remain independent, although you may need to learn to do things in a new way.

This program will discuss the various resources, services, and technologies that are available, as well as the helpful services POB offers to those with vision loss. Learn about magnifiers and audio options, better lighting and contrast, travel services, and support groups. Many options are available to help maintain independence and be able to do the things you want to do.

This program is organized by Friendship Heights Neighbors Network in partnership with the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington. The event is part of FHNN’s collaboration with Little Falls Village.
