About this event
Betsy Holleman Burke and Judy Bowles will have a conversation about poetry and share their poetry with us. Bowles is the author of “The Gatherer” and “Unlocatable Source.” Burke is the author of "All That Remains," which begins with the destruction of her family home. What follows are the memories
which keep the place and people alive as she moves into a wider world. Burke was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee on the Tennessee River. The rambling English Bungalow style house was a gracious center of life for her family and friends for over sixty years. When new owners destroyed it without warning, this collection was born. Betsy began writing poetry after the untimely death
of her husband, Vernon, two decades ago, and the daily visit of a hummingbird. She is passionate about learning the craft and enjoys a ten year association with Professor David Keplinger and the Surrey Street Poets in Washington, DC. Her chapbook, Searching for Hummingbirds, was published in 2014, shortly before her marriage to an old friend. Betsy graduated from National Cathedral School in Washington, DC and Hollins University in Virginia as a history major. She is a floral designer at the Washington National Cathedral and Hillwood Museum. Visit Besty’s website today at searchingforhummingbirds.com.
