Lyric Winik – known as “the go-to-scribe for political memoirs” and a “gifted crafter of sentences”-- will take us behind the scenes of her book collaborations with First Ladies Laura Bush and Michelle Obama, NPR's Nina Totenberg and others to explain how she is able to capture another person’s essence and translate their voice and memories onto the page. An award-winning writer and author, Lyric Winik has worked with Laura Bush on her memoir Secrets of the Heart and with Michelle Obama on the White House book American Grown – which both made it to the New York Times Bestsellers list. In the last decade, Lyric has collaborated on more than fifteen books, including the groundbreaking, Daring to Drive: A Saudi Woman’s Awakening. Her latest 2021 release, How to Be Human: An Autistic Man’s Guide to Life, was heralded by Walter Isaacson as “A beautiful and astonishing book” and reached number one on Amazon within days of its release. For her most recent project, she worked with NPR legend Nina Totenberg on Dinners With Ruth, A Memoir of Friendship. For many years, Lyric has been a dedicated volunteer at the local schools, currently serving as the PTSA President for B-CC High School – and awarded the MCCPTA PTA President of the Year in 2022. She lives in Chevy Chase with her two sons and their much-loved Lakeland terrier. In her spare time, she also enjoys hiking, cooking and gardening.
